Chinese EV and Battery Companies: Employee Count and Compensation

EV and battery companies have very different mixes of factory, engineering, sales and corporate staff. Looking at employee count beside average compensation gives a clearer company-level comparison than either measure alone.

Quick answer

The 17 selected major companies report a combined 1,670,894 employees in their latest available figures. Their median 2025 average compensation was CN¥193,463.

Reading headcount and compensation together

A larger workforce does not imply higher average compensation. Automation, the share of manufacturing staff, consolidation scope, overseas employment and accounting treatment can all affect the reported figures.

Methodology and limitations

  • Average compensation is derived from company-reported employee and compensation figures. It is not the salary received by every employee and does not describe individual pay.
  • We use the median to reduce the effect of unusually large observations and show the mean as a separate comparison.
  • Missing values are excluded. Year-to-year comparisons include only companies with data in both periods.
  • This article is factual data analysis. It is not investment advice, a stock recommendation, or an asset-management service.
  • This is a manually selected set of major A-share vehicle and battery manufacturers. It is not a complete EV supply-chain classification.
